Stephen & Penelope is the name of a delightful yarn shop we found after wandering the streets and canals of Amsterdam. This completely ‘bombed bicycle’ greeted us in the window. Since we had been dodging bicycles throughout our walk, this one in the window served to remind us that bikes “are” Amsterdam.
The shop was about the size of Yarn and Thread, and filled with all manners of projects, shelves and baskets of yarn. We felt right at home immediately. The young lady who helped us spoke perfect English. No wonder! She was from Oregon!
They stocked a complete line of Malabrigo yarns. I purchased an intriguing sock yarn from Denmark called Onion. It is a super soft combination of 70% wool and 30% nettle. Who wouldn’t want socks spun with nettle? If you find yourself in Amsterdam stop by Stephen & Penelope. You won’t be disappointed.
